On the quest to increase your brand awareness? That’s what we all want, isn’t it? I’m involved in affiliate marketing and have a few websites so I thought it would be nice to have more followers on my Instagram account.
Is Buying Instagram Followers Worth It?
If you grow the number of your Instagram followers organically, one by one, it takes a lot of time and dedication. It requires posting images, at best every day, adding short videos, engaging with the community.
But not only that. Same as with YouTube or Facebook followers, if you want to be seen more, you have to go through other people’s posts and comments. Then the author or the other commenters might go to look at your profile and like, comment, or become your followers, too.
Even though you do that consistently, it still takes a long time to build up a decent number of followers.
That’s why it’s so tempting to take a shortcut. Get a few hundred followers in an instant.
So when you get an Instagram message offering you followers for a couple of dollars, you might find it a good idea. It is quite tempting, isn’t it?
But before you go for it, read this story, a real-life experience with buying Instagram followers.
Experience With Glamnluxurious
I had about 330 Instagram followers when I received a private message offering me followers. It was my first message of this kind.
I just saw your amazing profile on Instagram, I am just reaching out to you because I want to let you know it is amazing. You have so many beautiful pictures, and you are really doing an awesome job.
I want to repost your pictures on my profile. My account is @GlamnLuxurious and I do have more than 90000 followers, and when they see your pictures, many of them will start following you. I hope this sounds good to you, because I am sure you will benefit a lot from this.
Can I do this? 🙂

This was the first-ever message offering me followers. I didn’t think it was an offer to purchase the followers! Seeing that, I thought the girl really liked my profile pictures and wanted to share them. Naive, right?
I went to look at the profile and replied:
thank you, I think you have really beautiful pictures on your profile! I don’t have many pictures on mine yet but I’m going to post more. Yes it sounds good, you can repost what you like, if it brings me more followers, I’ll be happy.
Have a nice day,
The reply to my message was, of course, a price offer. A very smart one regarding the wording. Would you resist such nice words of appreciation? Well, you might be smarter than me, but I have fallen for this:
Thank you so much for getting back to me on this 🙂
This collaboration between us will get you so many new followers, and you will save so much time and effort. I have done many collaborations over the time, and I know you will get very good results, if we share your amazing pictures.
I love your work, and your profile is stunning and I am able to promise you will gain more than 500 new real followers for every shoutout I do for you my account @GlamnLuxurious. If we do 4, you will gain 2000 new followers, and if we do 10, you will gain more than 5000 new followers.
I know my followers will love your pictures, so I promise you will get a full refund, if you gain less followers than I promise in these packages 🙂
1 Shoutout – $39 (500 Followers)
4 Shoutouts – $79 (2000 Followers)
10 Shoutouts – $159 (5000 Followers)
All we need to start this now, is to know which package you prefer. I also need you to send your pictures here on email. I will post your picture on my profile as soon as possible, and I will make sure to post your first picture within 24 hours from now. If you do 4 or 10 shoutouts, then I will share one of your pictures every day for 4 or 10 days, to make sure you get the best results.
Your new followers will start following you almost instantly after I share one of your pictures, and you will have more than 500 new followers within 24 hours after each shoutout.
Your stunning profile will get the attention it deserves, and it will become much more popular, if we do a collaboration.
We do receive payments via Paypal, so I will send the invoice along with the contract there. Btw our prices are very cheap at the moment 🙂

So I went for it. I chose 1 shoutout for $39 that was supposed to get me 500 followers.
And it did. I paid via Paypal and the day after I didn’t have 330 followers, but over 900! It looked so nice, I have to admit.
That lasted for a couple of days or weeks. But then it started to go down.
It is about 5 months now and my followers are at 468. Even though I do get some new followers naturally, like one or two in a week, I lose about the same number being removed by the fake followers.
It was a good lesson and I don’t regret it. First, Glamnluxurious did what they promised, delivering more than 500 followers within one or two days, and second, $39 is not a huge amount of money.
However, there are much cheaper offers with a bigger number of followers. I received messages from five or six others soon after the first one and I still keep getting new ones now and then.
How it actually works
I’ve seen how it works first hand as my boyfriend when he was looking for some side hustle from home came across an offer from a company to get paid by clicking on people’s profiles on Instagram, i.e. becoming a follower. These “clickers” get a ridiculously small amount of money per one follow, but here you see what it is all about.
When you think about it, it’s a good business, those who offer you the new followers have calculated their profits well.
And you’d be surprised how many models and similar famous people use this.
Why is it not wise to buy followers?
The followers are not people who really like you. They are either paid for following and sooner or later they unfollow you, or they are just bots. They won’t engage with your posts. So what’s the point of having “dead” followers?
Also, if you buy a huge amount of followers and don’t have any comments under your posts then, it looks suspicious. People with real followers usually have a few comments under their posts so you can tell they are popular and loved by their tribe.
There are the reasons why you should not buy Instagram followers:
1. Fake followers are not interested in your posts so they won’t engage with them
2. They won’t buy anything from you (if you sell)
3. If you are an influencer, you can’t influence fake followers. It will look fake if you have thousands of followers and no engagement under your posts.
4. Buying followers is against Instagram terms of service so Instagram can suspend your account.
I found out you can check whether an account has fake followers on influencermarketinghub. However, the account you are checking on must have a minimum of 1,000 followers.
Conclusion: Is Buying Followers Worth It?
Buying Instagram followers isn’t worth it. The majority of the new followers will only follow you for a few days or weeks, and they won’t like or comment on your posts.
I really think it’s better to create something in long term, a project you are passionate about, create your own website, do it right and without shortcuts.
