how to find your talent

Efficient Way How to Find Your Talent

Posted on 2019-10-232020-09-22

You might have heard it for many times that if you want to be successful and/or happy in life, you have to know your talents. You have to go for the thing that you feel good about. But how to find your talent? Can anyone tell you?

It doesn’t have to be for the sake of creating a big business. You might just be best at something simple you have never considered a big thing. But it’s definitely good to know because it also makes you more proud of yourself if you know what are your special qualities. Everyone of us has some.

But that’s the problem. You have no clue what talent you have.

You might be pretty confused and don’t know where to start off.

Well, you are not the only one. Many people feel this way and are not sure what their real talent is.

So how can you find out?

There are a few tips what I suggest to everyone with this issue:

1. What would you do if money was no object

Imagine you have won a few millions and didn’t have to work anymore as you had income let’s say from some properties. What would you do then?

We often think that if we won a big pile of money, we wouldn’t do anything else than travelling and enjoying life. But working and bringing some value for others is actually a big part of our lives and it is something that makes us happy. This is actually the reason why many incredibly rich people still work and make their assets bigger. It would be boring without work!

What would I do if money was no object? I asked myself this question several times in my life and now I know I would still be giving lessons, translating, blogging and helping others out with their motivation and struggles. It’s because I truly love languages, talking to people and explaining complicated things in a simple way. I’m also amazed by all the possibilities we have with affiliate marketing. And I love learning new things. But that’s just me.

What do you like so much you would always be tempted to do? What makes you happy doing?

2. What are you naturally good at

Everyone of us is good at something. You might be unaware of that because you’ve never realised it or haven’t thought of it as of something you could do in exchange for money but it is here.

  • For instance, you might be great at understanding technical things like car engines. Or even computers. (I’m not).
  • You might be good at explaining difficult things in a simple way. (This is my talent)
  • You might be great at making people laugh. (I do sometimes make my partner laugh)
  • You might be an amazing cook. (Me, I’m ok but I wouldn’t say I’m really amazing at cooking)
  • You might be a good boss telling people what to do and showing them by example. (I rather do things myself)
  • You might be a motivational speaker if you can speak very well, emotional and encourage people

If you ask me, I’m naturally good at explaining complicated things in a simple way. Making long sentences short 🙂 Cheering up with positive view of life. Having strong willpower.

There are many other things you might be good at. If you’re still not sure what are you really good at, ask your friends and family but not all at the same time, just one by one.

3. What experience do you have

You gain experience when you learn and practice something for a long time.

Let’s look at your experience.

  • You might have experience repairing cars (or helping someone with that) as your hobby.
  • Or maybe you have made dozens of delicious cakes.
  • You might have lost a lot of weight and managed to keep fit.
  • Or you managed to learn a foreign language really fast
  • You might be the best shopper always able to find the best offers.

My biggest experience is in languages, I’ve studied German, learned English myself and then completed two Cambridge certificates so I know how it is to learn a language from scratch. I’ve seen many different types of students who struggle with various aspects of language learning.

So what are YOU experienced in?

Put it all together

Now when you combine your passion and the things you are good at with your experience, you can make it your job or source of income.

You can always keep your 9-5 job to pay your bills and start making your hobby your business that will eventually lead to your main source of income.

when you find your talent you are happy

So let’s sum it up: How to find your talent?

1. Ask yourself: What do I love doing?

What would you always do if you were a millionaire?

What makes time go by so fast that I forget about drinking and eating and everything else when I’m doing this?

2. Ask yourself: What am I naturally good at?

What have other people always asked me to advice them on? What is easier for me to do than for most of the people?

3. Look at your experience: What have you been doing for a long time so you can say you are skilled at that?

What have you put a lot of effort to for many months or years?

If you ask me those three questions, I would say I love languages (both learning and teaching). I am good at explaining difficult grammar in a simple way. And I have experience in translating and teaching.

Discovering your talent by combining your passion with your experience and doing business based on that, you won’t ever have problems with your motivation because you will know that you are doing the right thing.

Even when bad times come and you feel you don’t have enough drive or feel exhausted, you will still know you are on the right path and the bad time is just a break you need to kick in with new energy. Deep down you just know.

Now when you ask the questions above, do you know?

Do you need a bit of more motivation? Watch the video below, it’s mindblowing.

Did this article help you to find out your talent? Let me know!

Hello Lenka! I stumbled upon your blog today and found your approach to uncovering your hidden talents to be pretty darn interesting and insightful. I noticed where you said your talent is to take complicated matters and simplify them down to be easier for people to digest. This instantly made me think of the popular series on YouTube called “explain one concept in 5 levels of difficulty”. You can find the videos by searching for that phrase. I’ve been addicted to them ever since they first started coming out. I think, knowing your personal talent, that you would find the series very cool and right up your alley. If you do check them out, please let me know what you think and have a great day!

    Hello,

I really enjoyed reading this article. It is true that we have to work in life because that’s in a way makes us happy. The three points you have mentioned are really helpful to get an idea about what we want to do and what our talents are. I answered to those questions while reading and I have to say they are very effective. You sure has the talent of teaching and explaining things in a simpler way. 🙂

    Hi Lenka,

I really enjoyed reading your article on how to find your talent. It really got me thinking and I have to admit I am more of an all rounder – in other words I am OK at most things, but not what I would call talented at any one thing. Have you any tips for what to choose now in order that I can find something interesting for a future career? Thanks in advance, Andrew

Andrew, thank you for reading! I know myself that it took me a long time to discover what I wanted. If you don’t feel you have any special talent, just keep asking yourself what you really want and what would you do if money was no object. That’s the most important question. It also helps to look at what you wanted to do when you were a child. Wish you good luck on your quest!

    Hey,

Some great tips on helping people to find their talent. I went through a similar process a couple of years back, when I started my blog on ways to naturally increase testosterone production. I’m now in a position where that blog doesn’t need my attention full time.

I’m now looking to start a second blog, I’ve been seeking some inspiration in terms of a topic. Running through the steps that you’ve suggested, I’m pretty sure I know what my next blog subject will be.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience! Yes, I believe that asking those questions really helps to realise what we know deep down inside: what we really want.

I believe regardless of one’s social status or self-confidence, everybody is born with a talent. It is up to each of us to find our inner magic and hone our skills until we are the best at what we do. Being talented doesn’t have to always be what comes naturally to you, many times, we all have to put in good work and effort in order to be able to tap into our talents. For me, personal experiences have come a long way in helping me realise my talents and put them to good use.

You are right, Amanda, hard work and effort plays a big role there! Someone lazy might never find that and only complain they have a horrible life / job / whatever. I strongly believe that finding our talents and doing what we love is the thing that makes us happy most of all, regardless of other circumstances.
Thanks or stopping by and sharing your insights!

Thank you very much for this post really. This issue has always been a problem for me, as it has often been difficult for me to answer these questions.

And when I answer them, honestly, I’m afraid of the answers. I wonder, could I really live on “that”? And if I get bored?
I feel that if I answer these questions I will have to do that for the rest of my life.

But I like how you have differentiated between passion and experience. This really makes me think about what I like, and yes, I admit it … I wonder “why not?”

I will be honest, I feel that I am very good at teaching math, people look for me for that, and saying that I am good! And now I wonder how I could use that passion. But at the same time I’m afraid to think I would do that. Maybe because I only see the usual formal way, behind a blackboard. I guess I should start looking for other ways, right?

Thank you very much for this article, it helped me to be a little more honest with myself.

    Regards!

Hello Pablo, the math teacher! I think we should not worry too much, we never know what life brings anyway. I have tried many different things in my life and don’t regret anything. At least I can now say What I don’t want to do, that’s also important.
You can do more things at the same time also and be happy. I do translations, give skype lessons, do affiliate marketing, and maybe there will be something else I add to it in future. Most important thing is to enjoy what you’re doing.

Aha, finding ones talent is a big struggle for almost every human being. I like you opinions about “if money was no object.” The people who work and work have the ambition and drive to get up, make their assets bigger, and expand on their knowledge. The questions that you ask are also essential in helping people formulate their response. What is talent? A famous pianist, Arthur Rubinstein once said “one must be born with talent.” We all possess certain skill sets but the true talent comes from within.

Jos, you are right that there are things we are born with but then the question is what we do with them. Some people never master their skills even though they would be good at them, just because they are lazy. Some people might not even be interested what they are good at, what their talent is. They go to work every day and think it’s ok. But I was looking for the answer to this question because I wanted to be truly happy with my work and I needed to know.

    Hi there,

First off, excellent video and article!

I don’t know how I would feel if I had lots of money as I have never been rich so far:) If I were a rich person, I would definitely do something to help people. I don’t know what exactly, but I hope I will find out with time. Anyway, I love blogging, and I love affiliate marketing. I think I am hooked:)

People are busy working to improve their financial objectives that they mostly don’t think about what they really like to do in life, and this is really sad because we have only one life and we need to live it plentifully.

Is there a way I can accelerate the process of finding out what I like in life? May yoga or meditation?

Thank you for this excellent post!

Thank you for your kind words, Daniella! For me, the question what I would do if money were no object really brought the answers. I know it’s hard to imagine but it is possible. Imagine you win a lottery; you buy a few houses so the money flowing from tenants will provide for your living and you buy all what you want. But what next? Would you keep doing what you are doing now? Would you go to study something you always wanted to? Would you establish an animal shelter?
I think there are some meditations on youtube about finding the life purpose. Michael Sealey has good mediations, for instance. But main thing is you find the presenter pleasant for your ears, if not, go for another one.

Thank you so much for this article, Lenka! God has given all of us special talents, and once we come into knowledge of these talents and use them as intended (to help others and lead people to God), we will live a truly fulfilling life. Oftentimes, we do things because we “should,” it’s what our families and friends want us to do, or because it comes easy to us. True value comes from your passion, working in your passion, and making the world a better place in the process. When we realize our talents and run with them, amazing things happen. Great read! God bless you!

So true! True value only comes from working with passion and trying to make world a better place. It took me a long time to understand that as well.
Thank you very much for your kind words, C.N., much appreciated.

Well, I think everyone is gifted with a talent or talents. It is now left for us to discover that talent. Most times we miss it in life trying to figure out our place in life and then end up realizing that talent when it’s too late. But it’s not enough to have that gift, you need to be build-up on it with hard work because talent without hard work is nothing.

It is good for someone to know what his or her talent is, knowing one’s talents makes everything easy for the individual. This article helps people to identify the one thing that the individual is so good at and by so doing some questions are being highlighted to help in knowing one’s talent, like asking yourself what you love doing, things that you are naturally good at.

Thank you Lenka for writing these wonderful tips. Since losing my job due to the pandemic, I’ve been thinking very much about what should I do for my future. I was not aware of my real talent before reading your article here 🙂 Now I understand why it’s hard for me to develop my skills in my fieldwork since it’s something that I don’t really enjoy and I’m good at. Thank you for opening my eyes 🙂

There are so many online programs with big promises to make you rich etc. However, some of them (if not the majority) are not honest and only use tricks to make you buy.

I have to say that I was personally stuck and disgusted seeing so many scams that it was hard for me to believe there might be something honest and worth the money.

The purpose of this website is to help you make a good choice and save you money and time. But keep in mind everything I write on this website is based on my personal experience or my perception so the final decision is yours.

WHO AM I AND WHAT DO I DO:

  • translator
  • English and German teacher
  • affiliate marketer
  • I love personal development

My motto: There’s always something positive in every negative situation.
